We wanted to write a little article about World Down Syndrome Day for our website, so we interviewed Mrs. Alfonso about what it's like having a daughter with Down Syndrome. Here is the interview:
Aisha (student reporter): What are some of Jessica's favorite hobbies to do?
Mrs. Alfonso: She loves dance, and she is a cheerleader for Garfield High School.
Aisha: What makes Jessica unique?
Mrs. Alfonso: She loves everyone!
Aisha: What are some events you have participated in to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Day?
Mrs. Alfonso: Jessica does Special Olympics each year. She won 2 gold medals for the Snowshoe Walking event. Also, we dress in the colors blue and yellow to make people aware that everyone is special and should be treated nice.

On March 10th, we celebrated National SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) Day with a Kindness Pep Rally coordinated by Miss Valenti, our Phys. Ed Teacher and Mrs. Faga, our Guidance Counselor. The students danced, sang, and participated in fun activities, like relays and trivia. Students were reminded that "Kindness Wins."
